It gives my heart such joy to bring the kids to the Sunday School Nursery each week. Amara always gives Ms. Val a hug. Dominic clings to me a bit at first, but then does really well.
But it's not their reaction to the staff that I love. It's the staff's reaction to them. I don't know if they really are, but the way I perceive things, Amara and Dominic are the nursery favorites. Even if it's not the truth, it's wonderful that the staff allows me to feel that way!
Amara always gets compliments on her behavior and her love for the animals. People think it's funny that she gets as excited about picking up the toys (and kissing each animal and tucking them in before she leaves) as she does about playing with them. They tell me she always plays well with the other kids and brings some of the more shy kids out of their shell. One teen who helps out made a point of telling me that if I ever needed a babysitter, she'd love to volunteer because she loves Amara so much.
Dominic is similar, but on a "baby" level. Yesterday he started in the infant room, but since he was the only one, they moved him into the next level up (the 1 year olds). One man who was helping came out and said Dominic needed to be in that room every week -- he was so happy and energetic. He loved being around the older kids and really drew off of them. He didn't want to be held, as they often do in the nursery, he wanted to play and to explore!
After church yesterday, that same man came and asked us how we got so lucky to have two such great, personable, happy, easy-going kids. We assured him it has nothing to do with our parenting skills, but rather that God didn't give us any more than we can handle.
