It Only Took Four Months

Dominic has always been the child with "separation anxiety" issues. Amara has always entered the room as if saying, "I'm here, let the party begin!"

Their personalities held true back in January when we started the new day care. From day one, Amara has gone in happily, started playing, then as I'm leaving, she'll run to me and say, "Wait, Mommy. I need a hug!" Then she goes back to her playing.

Dominic, on the other hand... he has screamed at the top of his lungs EVERY single day from day one. The first day was complete melt-down for me -- the stress of moving, uprooting the kids, buying/selling a house, starting a new job -- it was all too much. Since then, I've adjusted well, and Dominic has always stopped crying within a couple minutes of being dropped off.

This week, everything has changed. He's back to his "old self" -- the boy he was at Sandy's. Now when we pull up to day care, he shouts out, "Jay Jay!" (his teacher's name). He goes running in, straight over to Ms. Jay Jay, gives her a hug, then turns to me, waves, and says, "Bye, Momma!"

Some Mom's feel bad when their kids get to this spot -- when they're "happy" to see them go. Not me. For me, that moment means that my child is well adjusted, happy, secure, and feels safe in the place we've chosen for him to spend the day. For me, it's a wonderful sound! And a blessed sigh of relief.
