Protecting the Princess

This actually happened yesterday, but it was so cute and funny that I have to share it while I still remember.

We were watching "Mulan" before bedtime (bad idea - little nightmares followed). This was the first time Amara had seen "Mulan" (aka "Baby Dragon").

In the movie, Mulan was fighting the leader of the Huns and helping to rescue the Emporer. The "three stooges" rescued the Emporer and slid down the rope to get away. Instead of jumping down the rope, Mulan took the sword and cut it so that the Hun leader couldn't follow... and she couldn't escape.

As Mulan cut the rope, Amara sat up straight and cried out, "Princess, no! Down there!" and waved wildly at the television. She was trying to help Mulan escape and was very worried that she might not.

It was the first time I had seen her interact with a show like that. She's always been very empathetic to the characters, but never has she offered advice or direction.

Following the movie, she crawled up next to me on the couch and started waving her arms in front of her and growling - she was being a "silly monster."

Later that night... the silly monster was a bit more scary. She only had a little nightmare, but probably a movie best saved for earlier in the day.
